APPLICATIONS
:
SYNTHETIC
LUBRICANTS: HEPTANOIC ACID is one of the commonly
used, commercially available fatty acids used
in the manufacturing of polyol esters. The
polyol esters themselves are one of the most
important base slocks in the field of synthetic
lubricants.
In
the manufacture of polyol esters, a polyol
is reacted with different fatty acids by the
esterification reaction route to produce the
polyol ester. Some of the commonly used polyols
are Trimethylopropane (TMP) and Pentaerythritol
(technical grade 88- 95 % monomer). The other
commonly used acids besides the heptanoic
acid, are valeric, capriylic and pelargonic
acids. At present, only HEPTANOIC ACID is
available in India, the other have to be imported.
